Default Gabriel Knight 1 DosBox Dialoguespeed

Hi,

I'd really enjoy playing GK1 on XP and I also got DosBox (0.63).
I'm able to start a new game but when the "intro" of the first day (newspaper-boy, nightmare) is finished and Gabriel enters the room
the dialogue text is not readable. It's too fast.
The game's speed is fine all animations run smooth but the text only appears
for a second.
Slowering down the CPU cycles in DosBox won't help.

Any ideas?

It's because you're using the CD version and it can't find the speech files. See here (esp. Appendix C). Or you could just disable speech in the options, but that kind of makes it silly to use the CD version, then.

Welcome to the forum.

Your other option is to use the patch here to run it without DosBox.

Yeah, the XP installer.

I don't know if it'll work with a German version or not. If you can't get the DosBox thing fixed, it's worth a try. But first you could try fixing it the way Kurufinwe suggested in the post he linked to:

Quote:
Sometimes, in collection versions, the installer doesn't set properly the location of the various resource files (speech, etc.), and the game therefore can't find them. So, we'll have to set them by hand. Locate a file called RESOURCE.CFG in the game folder and open it with Notepad. You'll see several lines referring to your CD drive: they are used to tell the game where to look for resources. You may see, for example:

audio = D:\;D:\sfx;D:\aud
sync = D:\aud
movieDir = D:\seq

But the problem is that, on your CD, the game is not located on D:\ but on, say, D:\GKCD\ (the folder you're looking for is the one in which you launched ths installer). So you want to edit the previous lines to:

audio = D:\GKCD;D:\GKCD\sfx;D:\GKCD\aud
sync = D:\GKCD\aud
movieDir = D:\GKCD\seq

Please note that the lines given above are only an example; the actual references used by your game may be different, with more, less or altogether different lines. Basically, look for any line referring to your CD drive.

Damn i dont get it. Must bump.
my english isn't the best too. Im trying to run GK1 but the subtitles are way too fast. I dont get this resource.cfg editing correctly
Using DosBox and D-fend

Game is installed (hard)Drive F:/SIERRA (no folders there)
I mount game to Drive E: and its called VOLUME_ID after mount.
On Drive (cd) E: there are folders like: AUD,SEQ,AVI,GRAVIS,PATCHES,SFX,SVEGA,VESA,VFM and WINPATCH.

Plz, could anyone explain this to me step by step.
